Camp 2012…presenters and activities

Featured Presenters:

Luisah Teish: Luisah Teish is a writer, priestess and mixed-media artist. She is the author of “Jambalaya: The Natural Woman’s Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals.” She is an Iyanifa (High Priestess) in the Ifa/Orisha tradition of West Africa, dedicated to learning and love. Teish creates sacred objects (altar cloths, wands and rattles) using recycled materials and ceremonial clothing (mudcloth, asoke and farria) adorned with cowries, beads and buttons. Teish is thrilled to be returning to camp.

Leilani Birely: Hawaiian Kahuna, Dianic High Priestess and Ceremonialist, Leilani Birely brings ancient Hawaiian healing and Goddess wisdom to the community as High Priestess of Daughters of the Goddess. This is a Dianic, Womyn-only Goddess Temple dedicated in the Spirit of Aloha to the preservation, perpetuation and promotion of Goddess culture, public ceremony, ritual and Womyn’s Mysteries. Leilani is a graduate and faculty member of the Women’s Spirituality Masters Program and ordained High Priestess of Northern California by Zsuszanna Budapest.

Activities Interwoven:
Voices of Camp:
We love to sing at camp and someone is always starting up a song somewhere, from a formal chorale to raucous rounds in the line waiting for a meal.
Heartbeat of camp:
We offer drumming circles to all who are interested, and include the sound of the Mother Drum in our morning wake-up call and in our ceremonies.
Soul of camp: Ceremony is a traditional way of honoring aspects of our lives and our natural world. We invite campers to help us create a number of ceremonies during our week at camp.
Movement: When we’re living close to Nature, it’s wonderful to move our bodies. We often have campers lead early morning yoga or tai chi or even afternoon hikes.
Creativity: Let your crafty instincts run wild at our sumptuous art tables, dive deep into a guided art project, and find just the right words to express your inner being at a writing workshop.
Nature:
The lake beckons us to swim or canoe and the trees call us to walk in their shade. Listen to the wisdom of the ravens and eagles, who often come to observe our ceremonies.

Fundraisers at camp:
We offer a marketplace, opportunity to do fee-for-service and an auction and a thrift store to which you may contribute. All of these are interactive. A small percentage of the sales from marketplace and fee-for-service goes to our scholarship fund, which allows women of limited means to attend our camp.
